St. Paul’s new free mental health clinic the “Living Room,” located at St. Paul’s Highland Bridge, has marked 111 visits as of November since its soft opening in August. The model aims to offer an alternative to the emergency room for those in need of mental health support or in a mental health crisis. Appointments can be scheduled in advance, but walk-ins or call-ins are available, with no appointment necessary, said Jacki Yellowflower, a peer specialist supervisor.

SAUK RAPIDS — Hudson Behling might see himself as a small-town kid from Sauk Rapids, but he’s about to make it on the big screen. The 14-year-old eighth-grader recently returned from two months in Winnipeg, Canada. He is starring as the main character in “Altar,” an A24 horror movie set to hit theaters next year. “I’m just a small kid from Sauk Rapids. I would’ve never thought a small-town kid would get a lead role in a movie,” Hudson said.

John Doman, a Pioneer Press photographer for decades, was gifted in capturing the essence of a moment and displaying humanity in a photograph through his curiosity and compassion. “I think the thing that made John so special with his work is how he connected with people,” said Jerry Holt, a former photographer for the Star Tribune and friend of Doman’s. “John had that gift about him.”Doman died Nov. 2 of cancer and pulmonary fibrosis in St. Paul, at the age of 79.

The Woodbury winter clothing donation drive nearly doubled its drop-off locations so far this year, reaching 24 locations in comparison to last year’s 13, according to the Woodbury Community Foundation. The winter clothing drive connects businesses, schools, nonprofits and volunteers to ensure local kids have the warm clothing they need. It’s run by the Woodbury Community Foundation, in collaboration with SoWashCo Cares, to reach students across the South Washington County School District.

Strahan received 40% of the vote while Bauer received 28%. Strahan, who has held the position for the past four years, said her priorities surround administering resources of taxpayers, fostering a welcoming community and looking to the future of Roseville.

Kathryn Smith and Gary Meehlhause won seats on the city council of Mounds View in the Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024, election with 4 out of 4 precincts reporting. Smith received 31% of the vote while Meehlhause received 24%. During the campaign, Smith said she hopes to keep taxes down, fill vacant commercial properties with businesses and make the city website user-friendly, according to answers to a Pioneer Press candidate questionnaire. Meehlhause did not respond to the questionnaire.

Rebecca Cave and Nikki Villavicencio won seats on the city council of Maplewood in the Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024, election with 13 out of 13 precincts reporting. Cave received 30% of the vote while Villavicencio also received about 30%. Cave, who currently sits on the city council, said she is committed to protecting trails, parks and open spaces, and providing diverse housing options, according to answers to a Pioneer Press candidate questionnaire.

Sanders received 67% of the vote while Patrick Hobot received 32%. In the city council race, Ford received 56% of the vote while Lori Saroya received 44% in Ward 1. Leslie Larson got 74% to Ini Udomah’s 26% in Ward 2. And Chris Massoglia defeated Amina Baha 69% to 30% in Ward 3.
