ST. CLOUD β For the fifth straight year, the city of St. Cloud has shut down vehicle traffic along one side of Fifth Avenue South for downtown restaurants to offer patio seating. The city first started shutting down Fifth Avenue South during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, according to city Clerk Seth Kauffman. WAITE PARK — Crossroads Center may be best known for clothing and retail shops, but now it's also home to something furrier: adoptable cats and dogs. That is thanks to a local nonprofit Green Acres Animal Rescue, which moved into the mall over Black Friday weekend in November 2024, according to founder and director Sheri Meline. Since then, the organization has seen a rise in both visitors and adoptions, setting a record in 2024 with 330 pets placed into homes.

ST. JOSEPH โ A St. John's Prep School student has seen her run in the Scripps National Spelling Bee come to an end. Emmaline Bushman, a 14-year-old eighth-grader, went through six rounds before facing the word "oxter" in round 7. Emmaline spelled the word as "ochster," according to the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Emmaline secured her spot in the national competition by winning the Central Minnesota Spelling Bee in February.

ST. CLOUD — The Great River Children's Museum will open to the public on Tuesday, June 10, according to a release from the organization. Construction on the project began in October 2023 and cost $17 million, according to the release. The state of Minnesota awarded approximately $7 million to begin the construction process. Conversations about a children's museum started in 2012 and took shape about six years later after Liberty Bank donated its property at at 110 Eighth Ave.
