Milwaukee is home to many dog-friendly bars, including The Backyard in Bay View and Art Bar in Riverwest. For pup caregivers, this is great news – but members of the Brew City Cat Alliance are hissed. “Why don’t Milwaukee cats have the same opportunities as Milwaukee dogs?” asks Emma Kruegerski, executive director of the Brew City Cat Alliance. Tempest Heat, an acclaimed and beloved Wisconsin drag performer, has died, according to friends and family posting on social media. Tempest Heat was the drag persona of Jonathan Carthell Hughlett. She graced many stages across Wisconsin, serving as a mentor or "drag mother" to countless other performers. Hughlett was a champion for Black, gay and drag history and was a Community Advisor for the Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project.
