Pitt football’s three official visit weekends are rapidly approaching for June and the Panthers have a long list of expected visitors. It will be an important stretch for Pitt in terms of its 2026 class as the Panthers look to lock in a slew of commitments. Pitt safeties coach and Western Pennsylvania area recruiter Cory Sanders made his way around to evaluate local talent earlier this week as high school football programs held college showcases. Sanders was in attendance as Pittsburgh Westinghouse Academy players worked out Monday afternoon and one freshman caught his eye enough for him to extend an offer. That prospect was DaeJour Pinckney — a 6-3, 220-pound athlete — as he received an offer from the hometown Pitt program on Wednesday.

The University of Pittsburgh revealed its 2025 Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame Class headlined by football great and future Pro Football Hall of Famer Aaron Donald. Same Young (men’s basketball), Bob Jury (football), Jerry DeMuro (men’s swimming), Jessica Dignon (softball), Wanda Randolph (women’s basketball), Amanda Walker (women’s track and field) and Jack Anderson (contributor: Pitt band) make up the rest of the eight-member class.

The Pitt football staff has been active on the high school recruiting trail over the past few weeks and that includes dishing out offers to prospects in the 2027 class. This week, offensive line coach Jeremy Darveau extended an offer to a massive four-star recruit out of Ohio. Taft High School product Kalel Johnson, who stands at 6-foot-8, 281 pounds, added the Panthers to his growing offer sheet on Monday.

During the 2024 season, the Pitt linebacker unit, or better known as ‘The Sharks,” broke out in a big way with an All-American and several other productive members making splash plays. The Panthers have an opportunity to take that play to another level this fall with two of the best linebackers in the nation. According to Pro Football Focus, Kyle Louis and Rasheem Biles are the only returning linebacker duo in the country with 80-plus PFF grades last season.

After spring camp roster evaluation and departures, Pitt football added a trio of transfers from the spring portal. On Wednesday, the Panthers announced the official signings of quarterback Cole Gonzales, tight end Justin Holmes and defensive back Zion Ferguson. Ferguson — a 6-foot-1, 175-pound talent — became the first from North Carolina. The former consensus four-star recruit did not see any action in his lone season with the Tar Heels and redshirted.
