Firefighters attended Wyncroft Road in Widnes (Image: Google Maps) EMERGENCY services were called out to the scene of a collapsed water tower in Widnes last night, Sunday. One fire engine from Widnes Fire Station was dispatched to Wyncroft Road shortly before 8.30pm. This came after Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a collapsed water tower. The collapse caused the release of a large volume of water into the gardens of nearby properties.

Two of the bikes seized by police in Runcorn (Image: Cheshire Police) A NUMBER of bikes that have been illegally modified to become motorbikes have been seized by police in Runcorn. Cheshire Police says that the vehicles are on their way to be crushed after being confiscated this past week for being ‘used in criminality’. This includes drug dealing and theft offences, and general anti-social and dangerous riding, putting people at risk.

Cheshire Police says that it will have more officers patrolling the Arley Woods area of Hough Green in Widnes. This follows a number of reports of fires being lit recently, with police stating that reckless arson fires are putting residents at risk due to their proximity to homes.

Waterways charity Canal and River Trust plans to carry out works to Sutton Weaver Swing Bridge, which crosses the River Weaver near Frodsham. The bridge, which celebrates its centenary next year, requires vital works to replace and repair existing mechanical and electrical elements to ensure the 100-year-old structure is safe and fit for purpose, the trust says.

An eyewitness said that the roof and the sides of the lorry were hanging off following the incident involving the railway bridge over Marsh House Lane earlier this month. It is something of a hotspot for strikes, with a number reported over the years. Now, Cllr Sagheer Zaman, the borough councillor for Fairfield and Howley ward, has raised signage issues with Warrington Borough Council. Following ‘urgent concerns’, a review is going to take place, with the location given ‘priority’ status.
