CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - An AFib medical device tested by Novant Health is now helping patients with the disease get off medication. Eva Ingram Robinson says her whole life changed once coming off a blood thinner for her atrial fibrillation or AFib. “It normally would wake me up like in the morning with profound sweat and heart pounding,” said Robinson of the condition. The American Heart Association describes AFib as an irregular heartbeat that can lead to blood clots, stroke and heart failure.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Joedie Hall-Holit’s was forever changed after giving birth to her son, Patrick, 25 years ago. After what she calls a normal pregnancy, things took a drastic turn months after delivery. “I started getting sick, short of breath, said Hall-Holit. ”My breathing was very difficult." It became so difficult that she went to hospital where doctors diagnosed her with peripartum cardiomyopathy. “It was heart failure due to postpartum,” Hall-Holit said.

The US Department of Agriculture(USDA) cut grant funding to two programs worth more than one billion dollars. It ended food programs for schools and food banks, fresh food sourced from local farmers. Those farmers are now trying to come up with new ways to recoup that loss of income.
