The chief executive of an NHS trust that admitted multiple failings in the care of a man who stabbed three people to death in Nottingham has said he owes an apology to the killer's family. Valdo Calocane, who has paranoid schizophrenia, was sentenced to a hospital order in January 2024 for stabbing to death students Barnaby Webber, Grace O'Malley-Kumar and school caretaker Ian Coates on 13 June 2023.

Super-strength drugs linked to hundreds of deaths have been found in samples of fake medicines bought across the UK, the BBC can reveal. We found more than 100 examples of people trying to buy prescription medicines such as diazepam - commonly used to treat anxiety, muscle spasms and seizures - and instead receiving products containing nitazenes. The synthetic opioid drugs have been connected to 278 deaths across the country in a year, according to the National Crime Agency (NCA).

The giant rodent escaped from her enclosure at Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World on Friday 13 September, into nearby woodland. She was found safe and well on Friday afternoon in a pond within the neighbouring woodland conservation area, and is now back in her enclosure.
