The Arkansas House of Representatives and Senate passed legislation Wednesday repealing a requirement that a person who graduated from a medical school abroad complete a residency in the United States. Rep. Lee Johnson, R-Greenwood, said Senate Bill 601 would help with the state’s need for more doctors, saying doctors who have done their residency in another country such as the United Kingdom or Germany should be allowed to practice in Arkansas.

Legislation to place limits on how much families that use a state-funded voucher to attend a private or home school can spend on extracurricular activities or transportation passed the Arkansas House of Representatives and Senate on Wednesday. Under Senate Bill 625, families with an Education Freedom Account under the LEARNS Act could spend no more that 25% of their funds on extracurricular activities or transportation costs.
