    By George!John and Sally Simkiss opened the doors of their attractive Victorian home in the Garden District for members and guests of the Royal Society of St. George. Southern Hospitality Catering did floral arrangements with colors of Carnival, and around and about the festive space, the flags of England, Scotland, Wales and Great Britain were positioned. Extending welcoming hands as well were society president Paul Masinter and spouse Renee.

    Star Brights“Celebration of the Rising Stars,” an awards evening started by Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans in 2003 “as a way to reach a younger audience” interested in JA’s mission of the development of entrepreneurial skills, took place at Il Mercato with SUSCO Solutions as the presenting sponsor. Music by No Idea, auctions, purveyance by five restaurants, and strong sponsorship fused with the tributes for a gala event co-chaired by Karen and Perry Eastman and Bridget and Karl Senner.

    Light up the NightDebutante Fiona Hanna Marks was the luminary at the party given by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everard William Marks III, Britta and Everard, at the New Orleans Country Club. The former home of Mrs. Marks, Berlin, Germany, inspired the handsome Scriptura invitation that depicted a nocturnal cityscape with fireworks in the indigo sky, and later, the country club became an ideal canvas for the mapped projections of multiple thematic images.

    ZuluCarnival from A-Z concludes with the excitement of the Zulu ball that precedes by four days the annual parade. Back to the letter “A,” the Fat Tuesday parade (which started earlier than usual because of weather concerns) was titled “Zulu from Africa to the Big Easy.”The theme also bannered the earlier coronation ball of the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club, which took place in the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center with, as monarchs Rodney P. Mason Jr. and Kristen Bonds Mason.
