Columbus, OH- For the first time in Ohio a female black bear has been fitted with a GPS collar. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources along with the University of Dayton’s Gantchoff Lab, recently collared a female bear in Ashtabula County. The bear is around 5-10 years old and was captured on private land and was released unharmed in the same location. The project hopes to estimate Ohio’s black bear population, trajectories, habitat suitability and factors impacting human-bear conflicts.
Muskingum U. President Announces Retirement Plan

New Concord- Muskingum University is on the hunt for a new president. Current President Susan Hasseler has announced she plans to retire after the 2025-26 academic year, closing a decade of leadership. “It has been the greatest privilege of my professional life to serve as president of Muskingum University,” President Hasseler said.
Licking County Motorcyclist Killed in Accident

Licking County- A motorcycle crash has claimed the life of a Newark man. The accident took place around 6:05a.m Wednesday morning on County Road 668 near County Road 315. The Granville Post of the State Highway Patrol said 22-year-old Dylan McPherson was driving a 2016 Harley Davidson Street Glide northbound on County Road 668 when he traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned.
Zane Grey Road Closure

Zane Grey Road Closure Muskingum County- The Muskingum County Engineer’s Office has announced a road closure for this week. Zane Grey Road will be closed between Zane Trace Road and Sundale Road on Wednesday, June 18 from 7:30am-2:30pm for culvert replacements near the address of 1865 Zane Grey Road. Please plan your routes accordingly.
Flooding Causes Problems in Perry County

Perry County- Emergency responders in the Crooksville/Roseville area are assisting those impacted by flood waters. The Roseville Fire Department said around 10pm Monday the responded to a report of a vehicle accident on State Route 345 at Old Rainer Road. The driver was in flood waters and the driver was able to escape. In minutes the water receded and ODOT responded to clean the road.
Main Street Restrictions

Zanesville,OH- The City of Zanesville Engineer’s Office announced lane restrictions for Main Street next week. Starting Monday, June 16 Main Street will be restricted from Fourth Street to Eighth Street to allow for sewer inspection and maintenance. The work is expect to last two days and is weather dependent. You should expect delays, use caution around the work zone and utilize alternate routes.
Muskingum Co. Murder-Suicide Under Investigation

Muskingum County- The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a murder-suicide in Washington Township. Sheriff Matt Lutz said that around 8:45pm Monday they received 911 calls about a domestic violence situation with firearms at 3900 Church Hill Road. Authorities said when they arrived on scene they discovered a deceased male and female inside the home. Sheriff Lutz said it was determined that 34-year-old Zackary Tackett had shot his 34-year-old wife, Brittany three times.
Kelly Architectural Damaged by Fire

S. Zanesville- A building that housed an architectural company in Zanesville caught fire Friday morning. The fire took place at Kelly Architectural Services on Pinkerton Lane around 2:40am. The South Zanesville Fire Department Chief Russell Taylor said the fire was spotted by a passerby. When they arrived on scene it was a working fire in what would have been in the living room area. The fire spread into the upstairs.
