A former Croswell resident and Croswell-Lexington High School graduate has been selected for the Washington State 2025 Family Educator of the Year. Dr. Rebecca L. Benko received the award from the Washington Academy of Physicians. She was selected amongst nominees from around the state based on letters submitted by her former resident doctors and fellows.

McKenzie Health System continued their tradition of giving back to the community with a $2,500 donation recently made to the Sanilac Career Center’s Health Occupations program. The donation will help contribute to the purchase of a new bariatric nursing manikin for the program’s use. The advanced manikin represents a 350-pound male patient, with its purpose to assist students in learning the unique challenges that come with treating a bariatric or obese patient.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer, in accordance with a proclamation issued by President Trump, has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags in the State Capitol Complex and all public buildings and grounds to be lowered to half-staff immediately to honor and remember Pope Francis. Flags should be returned to full staff on the day of Pope Francis’ interment, which takes place on Sunday, April 27th.

A Clay Township man is dead following a two vehicle collision in Cottrellville Township on Tuesday. St. Clair County Central Dispatch received reports around 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Shea and Starville Roads in Cottrellville Township. Initial reports were that one vehicle had rolled over with entrapment. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office, the Clay Township Police Department, Ira Township Fire Department and Tri-Hospital EMS responded to the scene.

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a package thief. During the early afternoon hours of Tuesday, April 9th, 2025, a man was observed taking packages from the front porch of a home in the 3500 block of Wildcat Rd in Worth Township. He was driving a red Dodge pickup at the time of the incident.
