A LAST mile school in Agusan del Norte is now connected to electricity and satellite internet under the Marcos administration’s 295-school Last Mile Electrification Program. Datu Saldong Domino Elementary School, located in Sitio Tagpangi, Barangay Simbalan, has become the first school energized through solar power under the program—a joint initiative of the Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Energy (DOE), and the National Electrification Administration (NEA).

EDUCATION Secretary Sonny Angara announced that the Department of Education is studying the possibility of providing overtime pay for teachers. Angara, however, noted that current law permits teachers to teach only up to six hours per day. For School Year 2025–2026, DepEd has opened 20,000 new teaching positions, as approved by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.In addition, the department has created 10,000 administrative officer positions to take over non-teaching tasks.

THE LOCAL Water Utilities Administration is now actively reviewing reports from local water districts nationwide on water supply issues affecting both public and private schools, according to LWUA Administrator Jose Moises Salonga. “All 532 water districts were sent a memorandum circular with an attached form to report all issues regarding water supply in their jurisdictions,” Salonga said. “This covers both private and public schools.

SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian hailed the signing of the Early Childhood Care and Development System Act or Republic Act No. 12199, a landmark law that seeks to promote the optimum growth and development of children younger than five years old. The new law applies the Early Childhood Care and Development System to all provinces, cities, municipalities, and barangays to achieve universal ECCD access for all children below five years old.
