Construction of the 13-story, high-rise apartment tower began in November 1976. The 226 units were part of a 26-acre urban renewal project, Mt. Vernon Plaza, located on Columbus’ Near East Side. Bounded by Atcheson Street on the north, North 20th Street on the east, Mt. Vernon Avenue on the south, and Monroe Avenue on the west, it also included 150 townhouses and a 30-store shopping center. The focal point included an amphitheater with benches and a sculpture.

And yet data shows the levels of care that these homes deliver, on average, exceed that of homes in the cities. Similarly, residents in rural homes rate their own experiences more highly.

High St. in the historic Columbia building, now known as the Larrimer building.
