The list recognises people who have made achievements in public life or committed themselves to serving and helping the UK. BEM’s are given in recognition of meritorious civil or military service. Pepper has played a crucial voluntary role in supporting National Pubwatch, both regionally in the West Midlands, by being an active member of its Committee since 2004.

    Analysis of official data by accountancy firm Price Bailey revealed 67 pubs were lost for good in April 2025. The figure marked the highest level since last July, when 74 entered insolvency. The insolvencies were attributed to a rise in the rate of National Insurance Contributions in April alongside the threshold for the tax being slashed from £9,100 to £5,000 a year.

    The 4,370-strong pub company, which is the biggest in the UK, said it would be reducing its central support team to reflect continued growth across its leased and tenanted estate and a decrease in size of its managed division. Some 150 job cuts are expected to be made, with the number of sites in Stonegate’s managed estate estimated to have dropped from around 800 to 500 over the past two years.

    Last week, some 60 industry leaders cycled 220km across the Lake District to raise money to raise money for the Licensed Trade Charity (LTC) and Only A Pavement Away (OAPA). Riders cycled across the finish line on Saturday 7 June, after cycling from Penrith to Cockermouth to Carlise and back in just two days for the sponsored bike ride. With the fundraising total now standing at more than £100k, Pedalling To Pubs 2025 has surpassed last year’s record of £85k.
