The data, which is from the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA), found the year that saw the highest number of pub closures was 2017 when the UK lost 1,950, going from 50,300 in 2016 to 48,350 in 2017 - a drop of 4.03% year-on-year. The second largest drop was in 2013, there were 52,500 pubs - this was down 1,300 (1.89%) on 2012 where figures were at 53,800.

Arc has invested £4m into the 7,200ft site off Shaftesbury Avenue, which spans two floors and is set to open as part of the group’s Box brand in October. It is expected the flagship venue will create 90 new jobs and will have capacity for 450 guests and seating for 200, with the aim to be the ultimate bar to watch, play and party late into the night. Co-founder and CEO Wolstencroft told The Morning Advertiser the business had been negotiating for about six months.
