1 INTRODUCTION Obesity is defined as an excessive fat accumulation, and patients are clinically classified based on weight, weight for height, or body mass index (BMI), depending on their age.1 Obesity can lead to a wide array of comorbidities,2 and prevalence has been strongly on the rise in the past decades in the western world,3 as well as in developing countries.4 A persons' risk to develop obesity can be deconstructed into environmental, behavioral, and, importantly, heritable factors.
