The landmark paper by Chaudhry et al.1 elegantly demonstrates the early survival advantages seen with kidney transplantation versus remaining on the waiting list. However, the authors of this letter feel that conclusions regarding increased time to benefit in ethnic minorities are not supported by the data presented. Chaudhry et al.1 conclude that ‘the benefit of living longer with a kidney transplant was delayed for older people and those who were Asian or black’.

Liver transplantation is the only life-saving treatment option available for patients with end-stage liver disease and some advanced liver cancers. Outcomes after liver transplantation have improved over the past two decades; however, there are data showing significantly poorer outcomes within black recipients1. The coronavirus pandemic highlighted the roles social deprivation and access to healthcare play in health outcomes in the minoritized population2.

An article by Endo et al.1 addresses an important topic in transplant oncology. Endo et al.1 are to be congratulated for performing this large population-based study; however, there are some questions regarding the results and interpretation of the study.
