During their regular May 20 meeting, council received an update regarding the ice arena project. Previously, during their May 5 meeting, council was informed crews had encountered a frost and mud issue in the arena when they were digging into the soil underneath the ice rink.

During their regular May 20 meeting, Vauxhall town council reviewed the Taber-Vauxhall RCMP detachment report for the month of April 2025. While it was listed under delegations, no one presented the report to council. Throughout the month of April, the RCMP detachment responded to 16 calls for service within town, had one impaired driving/driving suspension, four criminal code violations, and one non-criminal file.

The opening of the upgraded arena in Vauxhall may be delayed due to unexpected repairs. During their regular May 20 meeting, council received an update regarding the ice arena project. Previously, during their May 5 meeting, council was informed crews had encountered a frost and mud issue in the arena when they were digging into the soil underneath the ice rink. While the town had a contingency fund for the project, at the time, they weren’t sure what the exact fix was, and how much it would cost.

Vauxhall town council was informed of a repair issue encountered during as work on the ice arena project was underway. During CAO Cris Burn’s verbal report presented during Vauxhall town council’s regular May 5 meeting, he said an issue had popped up during the ice arena upgrades. During inspections at the arena, after they had removed the concrete and sand out, in the base layer consisting of earth and clay, Burns reported that they found about 12 feet of frost in one spot.
