During their regular May 20 meeting, council received an update regarding the ice arena project. Previously, during their May 5 meeting, council was informed crews had encountered a frost and mud issue in the arena when they were digging into the soil underneath the ice rink.
Vauxhall received RCMP report

During their regular May 20 meeting, Vauxhall town council reviewed the Taber-Vauxhall RCMP detachment report for the month of April 2025. While it was listed under delegations, no one presented the report to council. Throughout the month of April, the RCMP detachment responded to 16 calls for service within town, had one impaired driving/driving suspension, four criminal code violations, and one non-criminal file.

The opening of the upgraded arena in Vauxhall may be delayed due to unexpected repairs. During their regular May 20 meeting, council received an update regarding the ice arena project. Previously, during their May 5 meeting, council was informed crews had encountered a frost and mud issue in the arena when they were digging into the soil underneath the ice rink. While the town had a contingency fund for the project, at the time, they weren’t sure what the exact fix was, and how much it would cost.

Vauxhall town council was informed of a repair issue encountered during as work on the ice arena project was underway. During CAO Cris Burn’s verbal report presented during Vauxhall town council’s regular May 5 meeting, he said an issue had popped up during the ice arena upgrades. During inspections at the arena, after they had removed the concrete and sand out, in the base layer consisting of earth and clay, Burns reported that they found about 12 feet of frost in one spot.

Vauxhall 2025 Tax Bylaw Approved

Vauxhall council has approved their new tax bylaw. During their regular May 5 meeting, Vauxhall town council approved their tax bylaw for 2025. Bylaw 1008-25, or the Property Tax Bylaw, sets the rates of taxation that will be levied against residents living within the Town of Vauxhall. Mayor Kimberley Cawley noted that their director of Finance, Clark Holt, had did a lengthy presentation on the bylaw when it was first presented at their April 22 meeting, when first reading was also performed.
New Frontage Tax Bylaw for Vauxhall

Vauxhall town council has approved a new frontage tax bylaw. Presented during their regular May 5 meeting, bylaw 1009-25 would allow the town to collect a special tax rate of $6.15 per foot for all accessed properties, for repair and maintenance of roads and water and sewage facilities. Mayor Kimberly Cawley noted that they had to dedicate the revenue raised from the bylaw to a certain area of their budget.

The proposed Bylaw 1008-25, or the Property Tax bylaw, would authorize the town to levy certain rates of taxation against assessable property within town limits for the 2025 taxation year.
