McHenry County has announced a report from New Directions Addiction Recovery Services that outlined the success of the county’s A Way Out program. The program is a support system that provides immediate help and a pathway to recovery for those struggling with addiction. According to a news release from the county, the report from October shows:9.76% of participants successfully navigated to treatment through the aid of the organization.

MORRISON – The Emmanuel Church of Morrison’s “Voices of Praise” invites area residents to celebrate with them as they present EVOP’s 16th annual Christmas cantata, “The Miracle of Christmas!”The cantata will be presented in three services: 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15; 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16; and 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17. Voices of Praise is composed of 84 singers. The choir will present a new musical work that offers fresh arrangements of familiar carols that are blended with contemporary worship music.

On and off rain did not dampen the spirits of those attending the Oswego Christmas Walk on Dec. 1. That included longtime Oswego resident Geno Cabrera. “It’s a good community function to get out and about right before the holidays and see the businesses that are popping up and supporting the local businesses in the community,” said Cabrera, who has lived in Oswego for 22 years. Downtown Oswego was bustling with activity during the Oswego Christmas Walk.

The top streaming Netflix reality show “Squid Game: The Challenge” has the largest cash prize in game show history at $4.56 million. Algonquin native Catherine Oliver took on the challenge with a dream to expand mental health access in her area. “I had a dream just like everybody else on that show,” she said. The reality show is based on the 2021 South Korean TV show “Squid Game,” a fiction series that highlights class inequality by having 456 contestants play life-or-death childhood.

Ottawa VFW will be hosting a Pearl Harbor remembrance ceremony 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7. The American Legion Color Guard will lower the flag and there will be a rifle salute. Lunch will follow at the VFW, 1501 La Salle St. The event is open to the public. On Dec. 7, 1941, 2,403 service members and civilians were killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

The recent check presentation comes as the J.F. Glidden Homestead and Historical Center, 921 W. Children across McHenry County got some holiday shopping done with police officers early Sunday through the Shop with a Cop event. The annual event took place at three locations in McHenry, Crystal Lake and Harvard, and about 200 children participated countywide, according to a Facebook post from McHenry County Police Charities.
