A car crashed into downtown Crystal Lake business Angelo’s Shoe Repair Wednesday afternoon, completely breaking the front window. Angelo’s Shoe Repair owner Alex Reznik said he was standing outside when it happened and that no one was hurt. The shop, located at 52 N. Williams St., is expected to be closed for the next few days as repairs take place, Reznik said.

A motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash Wednesday morning along Route 14 in Woodstock, officials report. The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded to a call at 6:19 a.m. Wednesday morning to the intersection of Route 14 and Washington Street for a reported motorcycle crash. First responders arrived and located a “motorcycle and its male rider in the ditch,” Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said in a news release.

Country Club Road in Woodstock was shut down Wednesday morning while electrical repairs were underway after a car crashed into a utility pole and injured the driver, officials report. The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded to a call at 8:41 a.m. Wednesday to the intersection of Country Club Road and Bull Valley Road for a reported car crash.

Marengo Community High School District 154 has been ordered by the court to pay back nearly $364,000 to taxpayers who filed a lawsuit claiming the district levied an “excessive” amount in 2022, according to court documents. More than 400 plaintiffs – including residents, homeowners associations and businesses – filed a tax rate objection lawsuit against the school district in 2023 in McHenry County court.

Woodstock resident Diane Brokaw will continue her charitable efforts – just on a smaller scale – after completing her final fundraiser last year in honor of her son, Zach, who died in a car crash at age 20 after falling asleep behind the wheel. Brokaw announced her final Stuff the Stocking fundraiser last year. She decided to end the efforts because of the extensive, months-long commitment of planning and coordinating the event, plus the work of giving out the donations.
