A business was set on fire in Belfast last night as fresh disorder broke out in the city following anti-immigration protests. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) was maintaining a presence in the Donegall Road area in the south of the city where several cars and a number of bins were also set alight. During violence earlier in the day, businesses were attacked after an anti-immigration protest moved through the city.

Road users have been warned of difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility as a Status Yellow rain warning has been issued for six western counties. The warning covers counties Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo. It will come into effect at 1pm and expire at 1pm tomorrow. Met Éireann also warned of possible localised flooding and damage to temporary structures. It said today will start mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

Once upon a time, around 100 years ago, Ireland had a more extensive rail network than it does today. Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan said that we had "the best rail service in the world back in 1920" - a network that we built ourselves. Then, it was more than 5,000km long. Today, it's around half that. But that could all change, if proposals to transform rail travel on the island of Ireland is implemented.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) faces the possibility of being stripped of its driver and vehicle testing roles after an independent review proposed significant reforms to the organisation. RTÉ's This Week programme understands that economic consultants Indecon have proposed several restructuring options for the RSA including removing responsibility for the National Car Test (NCT), driving test and driver licensing from the organisation, enabling it to focus exclusively on road safety.
