If you meet any of my friends around campus, they will have a lot of interesting things to say about me. One thing I can almost guarantee they’ll talk about is my obsession with applesauce. And yes, I mean the kind from Munchie Mart: the all-too-recognizable squeezy pouch that you can get in quantities of three for a meal swipe. Cinnamon applesauce, being the superior of your given options, is something I carry with me everywhere. To class, to parties, around my dorm, study rooms and more.

If there’s anything this finals season has taught me, it’s that a Rand booth is for late-night studying and procrastinating by watching reality TV. So it follows that anything from the “Bachelor” franchise will satisfy my Rand booth needs. It only seems fitting that I bring it full circle to review the seasons following the release of their finales in consecutive weeks. My utility as a member of Vanderbilt’s society has rapidly declined. I was a new, first-year once, excited to be on campus, saying hi to way too many people in the hopes of finding new friends. One of the most exciting yet overwhelming experiences of that first semester for me was the student organization fair.

I have a confession to make. Despite being obsessed with “The Bachelor” (and for good reason), I haven’t been entertained by ABC’s infamous franchise since Pilot Pete’s hilarious plane -crash of a season. Clare Crawley’s early exit didn’t make sense, I remain a Greg Grippo stan and Clayton simply looked like a thumb. In fact, I haven’t rooted for a lead since Colton hopped a fence.

A few months ago, I wrote a piece about the effects of local school shootings on teachers and communities that are desperate to feel safe in schools. I wrote as a future educator, a student, a son and a sibling. Only 20-something days later, the unthinkable happened. The sound of blaring sirens racing from VUMC to The Covenant School down the street — will be forever seared in my mind. I remember the thousands of students who showed up in droves at the Tennessee State Capitol for days and days.
