One motorist is dead following a traffic crash in east Colorado Springs on Saturday, according to an online police blotter item. At least two arrests have been made — Julio Lopez and Christian Bustillo were arrested Sunday on charges of vehicular homicide and speed contests, among other charges, according to Colorado Springs police. The collision took place just before 9 p.m. at the intersection of Constitution Avenue and Alpine Drive, officials said.

Clara Torres, 46, and Carlos J. Perez, 28, were identified as the owners of the animals and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty, officials said.

One motorist is dead following a traffic crash in east Colorado Springs on Saturday, according to an online police blotter item. The collision took place just before 9 p.m. at the intersection of Constitution Avenue and Alpine Drive, officials said. Investigators determined that two vehicles were driving west on Constitution “at a high rate of speed” when one of them hit a vehicle that was making a left turn on Alpine. The driver of the turning vehicle succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Officials at New Life Church expressed a mixture of sadness and hope over the weekend as they explained the details surrounding the resignation of lead Pastor Brady Boyd on Wednesday. Boyd, who assumed leadership of the evangelical megachurch in August 2007, was asked to step down after the board of elders determined that his recent statements about the sexual misconduct of longtime associate Robert Morris were “inaccurate,” a New Life elder said in a statement on Sunday.
