A bat found in Fremont's Northgate neighborhood has tested positive for rabies. FREMONT, Calif. - The Fremont Police Department is putting residents on alert after a dead bat tested positive for rabies near a home in the Niles neighborhood. The bat was found Tuesday near a residence on De Salle Avenue. The Alameda County Vector Control responded and brought the bat in for testing. The Alameda County Department of Public Health confirmed the bat was diseased with rabies.

OAKLAND, Calif. - A person was shot and killed near a school in Oakland Friday afternoon, police said. Police said officers arrived at the 8100 block of Fontaine Street near an Oak Grove school around 12:45 p.m. over reports of a shooting. At the scene, they found an adult with gunshot wounds inside a car. Despite life-saving efforts, the person died at the scene. Oakland police officers are investigating the shooting as a homicide.
