Illinois Senate Deputy Minority Leader Sue Rezin, R-Morris, was elected president of the National Foundation for Women Legislators. Rezin was chosen by the NFWL’s nominating committee to be the next president earlier in the year and was voted into the position during the organization’s annual conference in Orlando. She will serve as NFWL president from November 2023 through November 2024.

Three DeKalb area small businesses said they are ready for the start of the holiday shopping season. Many area businesses also have partnered for the Shop Small Crawl, a local-forward shopping event that runs all weekend to encourage folks to patronize one of dozens of participating companies in DeKalb, Sycamore and the Genoa area.

The University of St. Francis Art and Design Department has announced its annual high school art exhibition and competition for Illinois high school students will take place from Jan. 13-25, 2024. All submitting artists must be attending high school in the 2023-24 academic year and be residents of Illinois. One grand prize will be awarded to an eligible high school senior in the form of a USF Art and Design Scholarship worth $10,000.

Lakemoor police often get calls about injured deer, raccoons or Canada geese, but the call Friday morning about two domesticated ducks on Route 120 was a new one for officer Kevin Lyons. A resident contacted police at about 10:05 a.m. about two ducks sitting off the road near Sweet Melissa’s PIzza & Pub. “One appeared injured and one appeared to be OK,” Lyons said. He and his partner approached the two ducks, which they guessed were domesticated Muscovy ducks.
