The unemployment rate for Christian County went up over the past month, according to statistics released Thursday by the Kentucky Center for Statistics, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet. The jobless rate in January was 5.5% - up from 4.7% in December. That trend was the same for both Todd and Trigg counties. In Todd County, the rate went up to 4.2% from 3.5% and in Trigg County, the rate jumped from 4.2% in December to 5.7% in January.

The University Heights boys' basketball team used a run at the end of the first half to propel the Blazers to a big second half in an 81-60 win over Caldwell County in the first round of the Second Region basketball tournament on Wednesday night at Hopkinsville High School. The Blazers trailed 5-4 early in the first quarter and the score was tied 23-23 with just under two minutes left in the second quarter before closing the half on an 8-3 run to make the score 31-25 at halftime.
