Very little separated two evenly matched sides that seemed to be going to extra time when level 1-15 to 0-18 deep in injury time. Sean Desmond's goal in the final minute however, sealing the title for the Cork champions. Over the entire game, the sides were deadlocked on 7 occasions. David Jordan opened the scoring for 'Abbey' in the first minute.

Bishopstown 0-13Mallow 0-8Bishopstown were deserving winners over Mallow in the County Under 21 A FC quarter-final at Mourneabbey on Sunday. Harry Wixted and Mark Kelleher exchanged an early point with Sam Sheridan and Mark Tobin having them deadlocked 0-2 each after nine minutes. The City side gained control in the half backline and midfield sectors with Conor Dunne very effective at full forward. Kieran McFadden and Garry Holland were also very effective in the City sides inside forward line.

Inniscarra and Aghinagh finished all square in the Ross Oil Muskerry JAFC final in Grenagh with the replay fixed for this Saturday afternoon. Best for Inniscarra Liam Ryan, Jack Dwyer, Sean Sheehan, Frank Horgan, Dylan O'Sullivan, Donal O'Connell, Dominic Kelleher and Sean O'Donoghue, who was central to most of their attacks throughout the game.

A physically stronger and better-equipped Lisgoold side were too good for Youghal in the last Co Op Superstores IAHC group game at Aghavine on Saturday. As a consequence, Lisgoold, who had a spread of scorers and impressive displays in every line, remain unbeaten and go straight to the semi-finals, while Youghal's season is over. Youghal opened the scoring with an Oisin Hill goal in the first minute but Lisgoold quickly got on top.

The 2024 track and field season wrapped up last weekend in Tullamore and as has been pretty much the norm, the weather was miserable at times, which in the world of track and field doesn’t help. Regardless, Saturday was the opportunity for our U20 and U23 athletes to compete at the National Championships. Success once again led out by Amy Greene, who took the U23 steeplechase title in what has been a real standout season in both cross country and track for the Dungloe girl, a student at DCU.

The team will include two relay squads and a cohort of more experienced young athletes who have already competed at previous iterations of European u18 and u20 championships. The 2023 European u20 champion Elizabeth Ndudi (Dundrum South Dublin) is included in the selection.

In a morning of near-misses for Ireland, both Sharlene Mawdsley and Sophie Becker came up short of securing spots in the Women’s 400m semi-finals. Despite their impressive performances in the repechage heats in Paris, both athletes narrowly fell short of advancing but set a hopeful tone for the upcoming Women’s 4x400m relay. Sophie Becker delivered a standout performance in her repechage heat, finishing second with a time of 51.28 seconds.

CLOGHEEN 5KThe Clogheen 5k was held on Thursday, August 1st. We had 8 athletes compete on a warm and dry summer's evening. First home for the club in a fine performance was 4th Dymphna Ryan 17:46 and won the women's race. Next was 11th Ruaidhri Devitt 19:39 and was 1st M O40, 16th Catherine Fogarty and was 4th Woman and 1st W O45, 18th Jim Hally 20:16, 25th Tommy Byrnes 20:42, 28th Paul Bradshaw 20:47, 44th Tony Delaney 22:07 and 61st Denise Compton 22:56 and was 1st W O55.

123.ie National U20 & U23 T&F Championships 2024. What a day it was for Katie Bergin in Tullamore on Saturday. Katie got her day up and running in heat 2 of the U23 100m. Katie took to the blocks in lane four against six other athletes. Katie crossed the line in the blustery conditions in a time of 12.09 seconds to take the win in the heat. Katie’s time in the heat was also the fastest out of all of the 12 U23 athletes taking part in the 100m across the two heats.
