The family of a Staffordshire man who was killed by a psychiatric patient while walking his dog have said the incident was just the “beginning of our nightmare” as his attacker is allowed out on visits. Lewis Stone, a retired butcher, was on holiday in Borth, Mid Wales, when he was repeatedly stabbed by David Fleet in 2019. Fleet, who suffers schizophrenia, had been released from a secure psychiatric unit just 10 days before the incident.

A Staffordshire 'Nazi' was among three men who believed a race war was imminent and were planning terrorist attacks on mosques and synagogues, a jury has been told. Sheffield Crown Court heard that Christopher Ringrose, 34, of Staffordshire, Marco Pitzettu, 25, and Brogan Stewart, 25, were “right-wing extremists” who were preparing to use firearms, explosives and a range of bladed weapons in their attacks.

Aldi has beaten its supermarket rival Lidl to be named the UK’s cheapest supermarket of 2024, according to consumer website Which?. Using an independent price comparison website, the research tracked thousands of grocery prices across eight of the UK’s biggest supermarkets – Aldi , Asda, Lidl, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Waitrose – to find out how much each shop was charging for everyday items throughout the year.

Staffordshire Police boss Chris Noble has dismissed claims two-tier policing as he defended his officers' actions during the Hanley riot. Chief constable Noble said it “does not make any sense for policing at all to show favouritism whenever we’re built on respect for the rule of the law”. His comments came after riots swept through Hanley and Tamworth, as well as other parts of the country in July and August, in the wake of the Southport stabbings.
