Nichole Scott, the boy's stepmother, was the last remaining co-defendant in criminal cases filed after Gavin died from malnutrition in July 2024. Public school employees had notified the Division of Child and Family Services of suspected abuse multiple times before Gavin was pulled out of school and later died.

They were as clear as the red marksofficers saw around the woman's neck. In June 2021, Mayra Catalan-Dimas was 19 and a few months pregnant with her and Ricardo Trujillo Rojel's first child when she woke up around 2 a.m. to Trujillo Rojel choking her and accusing her of cheating on him, according to charging documents.

Utah’s prisons had a mail contraband problem. Pigeonly, a Nevada-based company, said they could fix it. In turn, Utah agreed to give them as much as $1.7M over the next 5 years. When the program began in January, concerns quickly piled up. Is it working? https://t.co/HLMUzEdhFf

Since 2022, lawmakers have given money to reimburse police for forensic strangulation exams, meant to document the signs a DV victim was choked even when they aren't outwardly apparent. This year, lawmakers didn't re-up funding. Here's what's at stake: https://t.co/VvFu7isZm8
