An interstate child molester subject to sex offender reporting in NSW travelled to Queensland and allegedly sexually assaulted a girl on a cruise, a court has heard. David Carl Ewen appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with two counts of indecent treatment of children under 16. Queensland Police opposed a bail application by the 56-year-old.

A man has pleaded guilty to attempting to aid the suicide of a woman in Brisbane. Chadd Benjamin Thomas Gardener faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday for a committal proceeding. The court heard he attempted to aid a woman in killing herself at Aspley in November 2022. The woman did not suicide. Legal Aid duty lawyer Megan Jones conceded there was a prima facie case against her client and consented to him being committed.
