In March, St. Pete Beach’s The Beach Theatre changed ownership. Since then, they’ve focused on renovations to the building to bring it back to the community. In 2025, they celebrate their 85th anniversary by rolling out their “revival season.” The Beach Theatre announced that the theater will reopen July 18. 25-year-old Hannah Hockman owns and manages the theater, along with her parents Ron and Sissy.
Gulfport Council Member Paul Ray Resigns January 14

On Jan. 14, Ward III Council member Paul Ray tendered his resignation. Ray sold his home on Hull Street. Although he didn’t formally announce his resignation, he sent the City his letter saying his resignation would take effect on Jan. 10. The Gabber Newspaper spoke with members of the Gulfport City Council. “I did not know about that,” Mayor Sam Henderson told The Gabber Newspaper on Jan. 14.
Golden Dinosaurs Closes Jan. 19

Following Hurricanes Helene and Milton, businesses along Beach Boulevard sustained severe damages. This was the “nail in the coffin” for Gulfport’s vegan staple Golden Dinosaurs. The restaurant announced on Jan. 11 on social media that they will close Jan. 19.

At the January 7 Gulfport City Council meeting, City Attorney Andy Salzman spoke about two investigations he held regarding City Council members. The first involved former Ward IV Council member Ian O’Hara’s spending with a City purchasing card. The second, and unresolved investigation, looked at emails sent by Ward I Council member April Thanos. After Ian O’Hara’s City purchasing card spending was revealed, the former Council member resigned.

As the January 7 Gulfport City Council meeting came to close, the City voted on eight resolutions. Nearly all eight dealt with hurricane damages and issues. Resolution 2025-04 approves a special event for OUT Arts & Culture’s ReadOUT event. This is an annual two-day dialogue focusing on LGBTQ+ literature. This year, ReadOUT takes place Feb. 14-16. OUT Arts & Culture also has an event on Jan. 28 at Stetson College featuring Nathan Bruemmer and Gloria Muñoz.

At the January 7 Gulfport City Council meeting, residents spoke to the City Council about their permitting problems, and changes they want to see. This included talks about the FEMA “options” and how to get people back into their homes as soon as possible. Mayor Sam Henderson opened the public comments section with a statement about decorum.
Doc Ford's Brings a New Menu to 2025

To ring in the new year, Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille launched multiple new dishes across their four locations. Along with their 2024 menu, guests can enjoy a Yucatan chicken sandwich, Yucatan baked oysters, a blackened shrimp wrap, bone-in pork chop, and shrimp salad. “We’re excited to introduce these new dishes which are inspired by customer input and comments,” said Joe Harrity, a partner with HM Restaurant Group, in a press release. HM restaurant group is the parent company of Doc Ford’s.
