    RIDGELAND, SC. (WTOC) - A lifesaving resource was brought to Jasper County Friday, as leaders introduced a new NARCAN vending machine at the County’s detention center. With the ribbon cutting happened, the opioid overdose treatment will now be available for free to released inmates and other members of the community. From January 1st to April 30th of this year, there have been 42 overdoses in Jasper County, including 9 that were deadly - according to the New Life Center.

Less than a month away from the start of hurricane season, emergency management leaders in the Lowcountry say now is the time to prepare. We talk about this each and every year, the difference this year though is that some of our communities are still recovering from 2024’s hurricane season. The organization refers to those adults as “Rays” of sunshine. We met up with them in a kitchen glowing with positivity. The Rays were making hundreds of cookies for a charitable partner. Shining in the brigade of bakers is a Ray who claims to be closer to the shadows.

    JASPER COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - The National Weather Service has their translations paused during contract negotiations, meaning emergency weather alerts will only go out in English. Tuesday we heard from a local emergency management director about this, who said he doesn’t believe it’s cause for too much concern. WTOC talked with Chief Russell Wells from Jasper County, and he said the NWS change doesn’t impact how his department will work to get the information out to residents.
