Last week’s Israeli airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, not only prompted a retaliatory response from Iran but also resulted in surging energy prices. Gabriel Odiase, cereals and oilseeds analyst at AHDB pointed out that since the attack on Friday June 13, nearby brent crude futures prices have jumped 12% to £56.95 per barrel – the highest price since early April. Furthermore, UK natural gas futures (nearby) rose 9%, reaching 92.93p per therm.

Blelack Princess Chartreuse T848 topped the sale at 11,000gns Scottish breeder, Mark Wattie of the Aberdeenshire-based Tonley herd, came home in style from Kevin McOscar’s Island Farm herd dispersal at Beatties Pedigree Centre, Omagh, after buying the top priced lot at 11,000gns. His purchase was Blelack Princess Chartreuse T848, an eight-year-old daughter of Warrenho Emperor M425 out of the show cow Blelack Cinders M965. She sold with her March-born heifer calf at foot.

This kick started the ‘Triple Crown’ of Hampshire Down National Shows across the UK which saw in excess of 100 entries at each event. The trimmed ram lamb is by the former Great Yorkshire Show champion, Highcliffe Highlight and out of a home-bred ewe by Westland Caractacus. Reserve was the female champion, a ewe lamb from Adrian Rundle’s Treworthal flock from Cornwall. She is by Treworthal Maximus and out of a home-bred ewe by Lecropt Challenger.

Hamish Mitchell has won no fewer than 15 Scottish Nationals and will be competing again on Sunday at the Royal Highland Scottish sheep shearing legend, Hamish Mitchell, has already had a busy few weeks of competitions and will again be starring at the Royal Highland Show on Sunday.

Suffolk winners from left, reserve, a ewe from Paula and David Reid and the champion, a ewe lamb from Gavin Reid and the judge, Graham Denby Judge Graham Denby of the Carnforth flock had his work cut out for him at the West and Central Suffolk Club show at Lanark Auction Mart, but soon whittled through the classes, finding his supreme in a ewe lamb from Gavin Brown’s Penicuik flock.
