31-year-old Darren Fulton from Workington works in the town as a personal trainer and door supervisor - as well as training as a bodybuilder for the past 11 years. Darren, who runs his personal training out of Intrim Gym in Workington, competed in the PCA Universe Pro competition in Hull on May 26, taking home the first place in his category. David Varty from Cockermouth died on May, 14 2023. The 53-year-old played rugby at Broughton Red Rose, going on to coach at Broughton Red Rose and then Cockermouth Titans. Following his death, his friends have come together to organise a memorial day to celebrate his life and raise funds for causes close to his heart - Broughton Red Rose, Cockermouth Titans and Andy's Man Club. Remembering David Varty Day will be held at the Broughton Red Rose ALRFC on June 14.

Armed Forces Day will take place in the town on June 28 marking the 16th year of the event. The parade leaves Pow Street from 11am, travelling through Finkle Street and down to Vulcans Lane into the park, with roads closed in the town to allow the parade through. There is then a service for people to attend before celebrations in The Workington Royal British Legion throughout the afternoon.
