Brandon Tallantire, 25, was driving a Volkswagen Golf in Cockermouth town centre on October 22 last year. Police suspected he may be driving under the influence of drugs and he was required to stop but failed to do so, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard. Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said officers followed the vehicle, which appeared to be actively trying to evade police. Officers activated their lights but the vehicle failed to stop and accelerated at speed.

Mayfield School pupils, based at Whitehaven, took part in the event aimed at introducing them to real-life job situations. They donned hard hats and learned about health and safety, gardening skills and a whole variety of occupations.

Christopher McKenzie, 38, was sleeping rough in Keswick and was ‘extremely intoxicated’ when he approached the woman on a number of occasions between December 2024 and January 2025.
