BROOKVILLE — Once again Brookville Area High School has been recognized for outstanding accomplishment as a recipient of the Governor’s Civic Engagement Award (GCEA). The award is presented for student-led efforts to register their eligible peers to vote during the 2024-25 school year. Brookville was one of 19 high schools to receive a gold award, presented to schools that register to vote at least 85% of eligible students.

At this year’s Baccalaureate service for Brookville’s Class of 2025, Pastor Bob Kuhn read from the Book of Ecclesiastes, where King Solomon said there is nothing new under the sun, everything that we do has already been done by someone else. He was right. Everything that we do has already been done, many times over, including complaining and taking things for granted. A few months ago just about everyone was complaining about the ice and snow which was giving us a nasty winter, to say the least.

BROOKVILLE — The concern over the 70 mph speed in the construction zone on Interstate 80 in Brookville has been addressed by PennDOT. Tracy Zents, director of emergency services, said Friday morning that a reduced speed limit will be 60 mph through the project area. In a letter to Zents, Vaughn N. Schlacter, Major Bridge P3 construction chief, said the Department of Transportation "takes the concerns of its stakeholders very seriously.

SUMMERVILLE — Cleaning up the community continues to be a priority of the Summerville Borough Council. At its monthly meeting Tuesday, council member Anna Keth was appointed as an assistant to council president Louis Kunselman, who is serving as the borough code enforcement officer until the end of the year. Kunselman said he, Keth and solicitor Mary Margaret Foradora “spent close to three hours” viewing properties. “Our solicitor is going to get involved.
