Gerald Hill said being hired as the superintendent for Eden Prairie Schools would be like a homecoming for him. Hill was the third and final superintendent candidate to be interviewed by the School Board on Thursday. He spoke with area residents and answered their questions during a community session prior to his interview with the board. Hill is the superintendent for Glenview School District 34, in Glenview, Ill. He has 16 years of superintendent experience.

Fourteen Eden Prairie High School students were named 2015-2016 National Merit Finalists, according to the Eden Prairie School District’s website. The finalists are Abigail Bunn, Michelle Chang, Emily Corpuz, Sebastian Deibel, Talia Flores, Caroline Frischmon, Kenneth Han, Sarah Howe, Carolyn Jons, Neetij Krishnan, Mengdi Lou, Trevor Moore, Benjamin Stone and Claire Yang. “Out of the 15,000 National Merit Finalists, approximately 7,400 scholarship recipients will be chosen.
Eden Prairie student advances to National History Day state competition

MTS Minnesota Connections Academy eighth-graders Katharine Davis of Madelia and Abigail Thelen of Eden Prairie have advanced to the May 1 state competition for National History Day at the University of Minnesota. Three MTS Minnesota Connections Academy students participated in the 2016 South Central Regional History Day at Minnesota State University – Mankato on March 15. National History Day is an inter-disciplinary research project for students in grades 6-12.

Eden Prairie Winterguard going to WGI World Championships

The Eden Prairie Winterguard’s three guard groups competed in the North Star Circuit State Championships at Henry Sibley High School on April 2. The Open Guard are the 2016 Scholastic Open Guard champions. The Junior Guard also came in first place while the A Guard finished fourth in the Scholastic A class, according to Sharon Kaare, a parent volunteer.
Mosaic coming to Eden Lake Elementary

The Eden Prairie School District’s Mosaic gifted and talented program at Forest Hills Elementary is moving to Eden Lake Elementary next school year, according to a May 12 Parent Post. According to the district, “immediate action” was required after current and projected enrollment numbers were reviewed. The decision to move was made after an “exhaustive look at numerous solutions to manage capacity constraints,” the district said. “The current building capacity at Forest Hills is 826.
Plea agreement being considered in Eden Prairie shooting case

A plea agreement is being considered for an Albertville man suspected in a Nov. 8, 2014, shooting at an Eden Prairie grocery store, according to the Hennepin County Attorney’s office. Kelly Neal Anderson, 30, was charged with attempted first-degree murder after he allegedly shot a River Falls, Wis., man in the head in the Jerry’s Foods parking lot in Eden Prairie. Police believe the shooting was allegedly the result of an attempted robbery.
Eden Prairie student organizes science camp

Katherine Yan, an incoming Eden Prairie High School senior, organized the first “Give a Girl a Lab Coat” science summer camp on June 13, 15, 17, 20, 22 and 24. The camp was funded through an ANNPower Vital Voices Initiative grant Yan received to “create a free summer camp for girls to address gender and race gaps in science and technology,” according to the event’s website. The camp was supervised by EPHS biology teacher Katie Foley.
