WEST PORTSMOUTH — The West High School softball squad has, throughout its history, been highly successful in Southeast District tournament competition. They welcomed the Ripley Blue Jays to the Southeast District by making Monday’s matchup a short one — raining on the Blue Jays’ parade once the rain finally stopped on the West side.

WHEELERSBURG — As it turned out, the experienced but small-school South Webster Jeeps —simply put —simply squeezed their way to a Southern Ohio Conference Division III baseball championship. That’s because the Jeeps, with the outright SOC III title on the line on Tuesday in Wheelersburg, just did what they have been doing all season —and that was win a low-scoring and overly-close conference contest.

LUCASVILLE — The Valley Indians, in all likelihood, learned the hard way a year ago that there was no margin for error in the 10-game Southern Ohio Conference Division III baseball championship chase. So, on Wednesday at least against the defending division champion yet younger Wheelersburg Pirates, the Indians started fast —as Carson Powell put the cruise control on while high atop the pitcher’s mound.
