XENIA — After a frustrating start to its season, the Brookville baseball team finished strong winning five of its last nine games including two in postseason play to reach the district final for the second year in a row. Unfortunately, that is where the Blue Devils 2025 campaign came to an end as No. 1 seed Cincinnati Indian Hill scored a 9-3 victory Friday at Athletes in Action to capture the district crown. Senior Nathan Waggoner ended his high school career with a solid performance.
T’bolts can’t overcome 6-0 Loveland lead

HAMILTON — Loveland took a 6-0 lead in the Division II, Southwest I district final Thursday at Hamilton Ross before Northmont scored its only two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Tigers scored one run in the second and four in the third for an early 5-0 lead. Drew Oerther hit a leadoff single in the second and advanced to second and third on a pair of wild pitches. He scored on a single to left by Dylan Hacker.
Tri-County North falls to Russia in district final

URBANA — Tri-County North lost to Russia in the Division VII, Southwest III district final Thursday at the Boyce Street Athletic Complex in Urbana. The Panthers finished 16-10 overall and placed second overall in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference. It was the final game for seniors Carter Lake, Braylen Keener, Garner Parlett, and Malachi Wright. Russia led 7-0 after three innings en route to a 10-0 victory. Tri-County North could only generate four hits and committed two errors.
Hall advances to state in high jump

HUBER HEIGHTS — Junior Jenna Hall was the only Northmont athlete to advance to the OHSAA Track & Field meet by placing third in the high jump at the Division I, Region IV meet at Wayne High School. Hall cleared the bar at 5-feet, 4-inches. Dashayla Worlaw of Mount Healthy took 1st place at 5-feet, 5-inches. Claire Downer of Chaminade-Julienne was 2nd at 5-feet, 4-inches and D’Asyia Cotton was 4th, also at 5-feet, 4-inches.

HUBER HEIGHTS — Results of the first day of competition at the OHSAA Division I, Region IV meet held Wednesday at Wayne High School have been posted. The meet continues on Friday. The top eight placers in each event advanced to Friday’s finals. Only events that Northmont competed in are listed below. Girls 4×800 relayNorthmont (Jazlen Simpson, Emma Martin, Makenna Long, and Emelia Yingling) finished 13th out of 16 teams in 10:13.84.

SOUTH CHARLESTON — Twin Valley South scored one run in the fourth inning during an 11-1 loss May 19 to Southeastern in the Division VII, Southwest III sectional semifinal. Amelia Suggs went one for two with a double and one run and Kynlee Metzger one for two for South. Emilee Zinn pitched four innings, surrendered 17 hits, 11 runs (10 earned), with one walk.
South bests National Trail in tournament

NEW PARIS — Twin Valley South scored one run in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings and five in the seventh to post a 9-3 victory over National Trail last May 21 in sectional play. After a leadoff double by Aidan White, Laiden Carver singled to drive in the first run. Carver went two for four with a stolen a base and three RBIs. He also earned the victory on the mound pitching seven innings, allowing five hits and three runs with three walks and 11 strike outs.

LEWISBURG — Tri-County North (16-9) defeated Sidney Lehman Catholic 8-5 in district semifinals to advance to the district championship game (May 29) at Urbana to face defending state champ Russia. Malachi Wright pitched all seven innings against Lehman. He surrendered six hits, with three earned runs, four walks and struck out five. The Panthers and Cavaliers both committed four errors. Tri-County North generated just two hits. Luke Baughman went one for three with an RBI.
Devils stun Oakwood in district semifinal

OAKWOOD — The old adage that it’s hard to beat a team twice, let alone three times in a single season proved to be true Wednesday as Brookville avenged two regular season losses to Oakwood with a 4-3 victory over the Lumberjacks in the Division IV, Southwest I baseball district semifinal. For the second consecutive tournament game, Brookville pitcher Lane Willoughby racked up 11 strike outs to help lift the Blue Devils to victory.

CLAYTON — Northmont extended its win streak to five straight Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over Miamisburg in eight innings during the Division II, Southwest I district semifinal. With the victory Northmont won its third of the year against the Vikings and it fifth straight to improve to 16-11. Miamisburg ends its season at 12-13 overall. “We have a bunch of guys that are just gritty and find ways to win when it gets hard and games go like today’s game,” said Northmont coach Brandon Rexin.
