A short-stay parking area in Preston city centre is to be relocated over road safety concerns. The well-used row of four free spaces – on Church Street, opposite Guild Row – offers half an hour of free parking between 8am and 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday. Outside of those hours – and from 6.30pm on Sundays – it operates as a taxi rank.

A former jewellery shop in Preston whose owner traded in the city for almost half a century could be turned into a takeaway. Plans have been submitted for the conversion of the former David Jones Goldsmiths and Jewellers on Friargate North, which shut its doors for the final time in January. The closure followed Mr. Jones’ decision to retire after 47 years in the business.
