    NHS trusts across Lancashire will be handed almost £16.5m to carry out safety upgrades to their facilities. The money is to be used for “small-scale, but important" works, the Department for Health and Social Care has said. The trust that runs the Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble hospitals will get the largest allocation in Lancashire from the nationwide £750m Estates Safety Fund.

    A new housing development on the outskirts of Preston is set to include a school and care home – if it gets the go-ahead. Developer Wain Homes has submitted plans to build up to 167 properties – ranging between one and five bedrooms – on land off the Broughton bypass. Within the blueprint for the estate – to the west of James Towers Way and south of Whittingham Lane – land has been set aside for the care facility and a primary school.

    Plans for a new estate in Leyland have been kicked out by councillors amid concerns that they would pose a danger to children walking to and from school. The 23-home development proposed for land off Cocker Lane in Moss Side was rejected by South Ribble Borough Council‚Äôs planning committee after locals lined up to warn of what they said would be the risk to school kids using the narrow route as a cut-through to class ‚Äď as well as to the residents living there.
