    Doncaster Town lost to Wakefield Thornes in a top-of-the-table clash in the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League. Both teams went into Saturday’s game at Town Fields having won four out of four in the Premier Division. But it was the visitors who edged a low-scoring affair to win by 30 runs and maintain their perfect record. Wakefield batted first and collapsed from 148-5 to 166 all out as Warren Graca claimed 2-34 and Joe Gallagher took 3-35.

    ​Doncaster Town made it three wins out of three in the YCSPL Premier Division with a comfortable 124-run victory at home to Hallam. Harsha Rajapaksha was the star of the show, making an unbeaten 124 off 106 balls to guide Town to 291-7 in 50 overs. Bhargav Merai (46) and Joe Gallagher (46) also made useful contributions with the bat. Hallam lost wickets at regular intervals in reply as they slipped to 167 all out. Merai, James Dobson, Denson Narayan and Jaden Fell claimed two wickets apiece.

    New overseas signing Bhargav Merai starred with bat and ball as Doncaster Town got their Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League season off to a winning start at Cawthorne. India A star Merai snared 3-9 from six overs as the hosts stuttered to 127 all out. New ball pair Curtis Free and George Cowan also claimed two wickets apiece. Merai then struck an unbeaten 53 off 61 balls, linking up with Jaden Fell (44no), to ease Town to a nine wicket triumph in 26.2 overs.

    Doncaster Rovers Belles’ future in the FA Women’s National League is in doubt after a 7-0 hammering at Division One North leaders Middlesbrough on Sunday confirmed they will finish a disastrous season in the relegation zone. Belles could yet receive a reprieve from relegation, though, which would see them avoid dropping into the fifth tier of the women’s game.
