By Paulina Vidal, ABC NewsA family of five in Sydney's west are lucky to be alive after inhaling poisonous carbon monoxide from an outdoor barbecue that was being used as an indoor heater. Three people were left unconscious in the incident that occurred just after 4am on Saturday at a Wentworth Ave unit in Wentworthville. Emergency services were on the scene within minutes, where the family was taken outdoors and given medical treatment.

By Holly Tregenza and Paulina Vidal, ABCA man has been arrested after a police officer was allegedly stabbed multiple times in the back of the head in Sydney's CBD on Sunday. The incident unfolded just after 1pm when a 33-year-old man wielding a knife about 30 centimetres long confronted two police officers on traffic duties on the corner of Castlereagh and Park Streets, near Hyde Park. He did not say anything to the officers as he approached them.

The offender, who NSW Police believe to be a 40-year-old man, was shot dead at the scene by a senior officer. Five of the victims - four women and a man - died at the busy centre on Saturday afternoon and another woman died from her injuries in hospital.

Five of the victims died at the scene and the sixth died from their injuries in hospital, NSW Police said. Nine people, including a small child, were stabbed by a man in the centre and some are in a critical condition. The offender was shot dead at the scene by a police officer.

There are currently 84 flood warnings across NSW, dropping from over 100 warnings - including more than 10 evacuation orders - from just before 6am on Sunday morning. A spokesperson for the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) said, in the 24 hours to this morning, the SES had responded to 146 flood rescues across the state.
