The Coalition has confirmed it would allow vapes to be sold at retail stores, tax the products and regulate the industry, in a departure from the current legislation which allows for vapes only to be sold at pharmacies. The opposition's costings, released on Thursday, reveal the measure would add $3.6 billion to the budget over four years. It's the third biggest saving the Coalition is offering, which will be achieved through a $1 a millilitre tax.

The Greens candidate for Macnamara, Sonya Semmens has stepped up to talk says the reason she's running for federal parliament is because of the "inequality crisis". Macnamara is another Labor held seat the Greens thinks it can win off the government this election. Semmens says the dream of home ownership for a whole generation is "dying". "We can't keep voting for the same two parties, expecting a different result if you want change," she says.

Early polling booths are open and in under two weeks those who have not yet cast their ballot will be lining up for a snag and a state-sanctioned opportunity to put either Peter Dutton or Anthony Albanese in the top job. Both men have engaged in a blizzard of campaigning, crisscrossing the country to mobilise support and fight for the attention of every undecided voter. The prime minister has remained relentlessly on brand, never far from his Medicare card and assortment of urgent care clinics.

Two of Australia's most striking populist figures are again at odds; this time, over preference deals. Pauline Hanson's minor party One Nation has dramatically reprinted its how-to-vote cards in at least 10 marginal seats, as pre-polling began, now listing the Coalition second on its preference list.

Elections are usually won and lost in marginal seats. It's a statement of the obvious, but political leaders use election campaigns to target these seats — playing either defence or offence, spruiking their wares on the road as they attempt to win hearts and, most importantly, votes.

I'm pretty sure when i joined the Canberra newsroom form regional Vic I thought a try was just someone trying their best. Brett was nothing but kind & patient in my two years in that office, and very graciously made sure I avoided sport reporting embarrassment. Thankyou @BMcSport

So, the obligatory 'I have news' tweet: I'm finishing up with @abccanberra & @abcsport tomorrow after 4½ years in this current role and an association that stretches back nearly a decade. I'm starting a pretty cool new chapter in a few weeks - but it's been a lot of fun.. https://t.co/p2pgX5Hqrp
