The clearance sale started Friday at the Joann fabric store on Kietzke Lane in Reno. The aisles were growing increasingly bare Friday afternoon as dozens of people bought fabric, yarn, craft supplies and home decor at discounted prices. All Joann locations are set to close after the fabric and craft retailer was auctioned off to a new ownership group.

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victims of two separate homicides in Reno. Joshua Kent, 22, was shot in the head near Pickett Park on Oct. 17, according to a news release from the medical examiner's office. He was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center, where he died on Oct. 19. Kent is believed to have been homeless. Darryl R. Smith, 43, died following a shooting near West Second Street in Reno on Oct. 20, the medical examiner said.

Reno's iconic Louis' Basque Corner made USA TODAY’s list of best restaurants in the country. The USA TODAY Restaurants of the Year 2024 list, released today, features 47 restaurants from fine-dining establishments to counter-service seafood shacks, and one Nevada joint that celebrates our Western heritage. For longtime General Manager Craig Benson, inclusion in the list is gratifying for him and his staff. "It's fantastic and very flattering," Benson said.

Four small earthquakes have recently rattled the Galena-Virginia Foothills area, with the largest, a 2.7, hitting at 4:12 p.m. Thursday. A 1.3 magnitude quake hit just shortly before midnight Wednesday, followed by a 0.9 at 12:26 a.m. Thursday.
