This newspaper was created in 1983 through the merger of two earlier papers: the Nevada State Journal, which was established in 1870, and the Reno Evening Gazette, which began in 1876.

    Amazon has filed notice with the state of Nevada for employee layoffs as the company moves forward with closing its Reno fulfillment center this summer. A WARN notice was sent by Amazon on Monday, June 2, and posted by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation on Wednesday morning. It confirmed that it will close its facility at 8000 N. Virginia St. on Aug. 2, 2025. WARN notices are 60-day notifications required by law when a company enacts massive layoffs.

The home of the former, beloved Sundance Books and Music at 121 California Ave. is for sale. The 4,700-square-foot, three-story mansion that's on the National Register of Historic Places has been empty since Sundance closed on May 31, 2024.
