The Tohoku-Oki earthquake (Mw 9.0) and the associated tsunami devastated the north-east coast of Japan in 2011. The tsunami reached peak wave heights of up to 40 m, triggered by up to 50 m of fault slip along the subduction boundary that caused seafloor displacement near the trench. Such a large tsunami and such an extensive fault slip were not anticipated for the region, demonstrating the limitations in understanding the mechanics of subduction zone earthquakes.

Cancer Cell International, Aug 2023 There exists strong evidence that human papillomavirus (HPV) is associated with cervical cancer (CC). HPV E6 is a major oncogene whose sequence variations may be associated with the development of CC. There is not sufficient data on the distribution of HPV types in ThinPrep cytology specimens and HPV 16/18 E6 gene variations among CC patients in the southwest of Iran. This study was conducted to contribute to HPV screening and vaccination in Iran.
