Zwitterionic organocatalysis for ring-opening polymerization of cyclic esters Zwitterionic catalysis was powerful in simultaneously activating electrophile and nucleophile in organic transformations, however, its potential in polymerizations was untapped. Herein, a zwitterionic catalytic model for ring-opening polymerization (ROP) was introduced and a series quaternary ammonium carboxylate zwitterionic catalysts were designed and evaluated in ROPs of cyclic esters.
