HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - No. 20 James Madison will look to extend its undefeated streak when the Dukes face Hampton on Saturday. JMU leads the all-time series 5-1 but the Dukes have never beaten the Pirates on the road. The Dukes are 9-0 and ranked in the AP Top 25 for the fifth week in a row. However, the Pirates are riding on confidence as Hampton is coming off two back-to-back wins while scoring at least 100 points. “Hampton is athletic,” said JMU men’s basketball head coach Mark Byington.

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - Next Saturday, James Madison will play in its first-ever bowl game. The Dukes are led by two figures in head coaching roles as the team gets ready to face Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl. JMU acting head coach Damian Wroblewski is joined by head coach Bob Chesney. According to the Dukes, the coaches are working together during practice, with Wroblewski organizing logistics while Chesney gets to know players on an individual basis.

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - “Some of them were crying tears of joy... it was electric.”This fall, Harrisonburg senior Victor Bullard helped lead the Blue Streaks to their first win since 2021. After going 0-10 in 2022, the Blue Streaks ended the season with a 4-6 mark in 2023. “We did great against adversity and this is a big step from where we were last year,” said Bullard. After transferring from Wilson Memorial his junior year, Bullard had an immediate impact on his teammates.

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - James Madison men’s basketball is ranked in the AP Top 25 for the fifth week in a row. The Dukes have been led by players such as TJ Bickerstaff, who was voted the Sun Belt Player of the Week. Bickerstaff has scored double-digits in eight of the first nine games while boasting a 67% field goal percentage. Over the weekend, Bickerstaff scored 21 points against Old Dominion. He went 9-for-12 from the floor and pulled down 12 rebounds for the purple and gold.

BRIDGEWATER, Va. (WHSV) - “I try to make up for my size in my strength and speed.”At 5 feet 5 inches tall, Kendall Simmers is shorter than the average elite softball player. This fall, the Turner Ashby shortstop committed to NC State to play ACC softball. “I’ve always wanted to play Power Five softball,” said Simmers. “It’s been my dream and I’m super excited.”Last season, Simmers hit .482 with 11 doubles, nine home runs, and 32 RBIs. She was voted the 2023 Region 3C Player of the Year.

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - James Madison women’s basketball took down Wake Forest 55-53 on Sunday. The Dukes improve to 6-3 overall. Steph Ouderkirk led the Dukes with 13 points and nine points. Kseniia Kozlova and Chloe Sterling added 10 points apiece for the purple and gold. The Dukes had two more points off turnovers compared to the Demon Deacons. James Madison returns to the court on Thursday at 7 p.m. when the Dukes host William and Mary at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - On Sunday, No. 22 James Madison men’s basketball rolled past Keystone 130-59 at the Atlantic Union Bank Center. The Dukes stay undefeated, improving to 8-0 on the season. Michael Green led the Dukes with 21 points while Terrence Edwards and Jaylen Carey added 16 points apiece. TJ Bickerstaff racked up 12 points and 13 rebounds for the purple and gold. Jerrell Robertson also had a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

BROADWAY, Va. (WHSV) - “I think I’ve grown in my leadership skills which has helped me in all aspects of my life.”Taylor Suters has helped lead Broadway in softball, basketball, and volleyball. According to her coaches, she brings boundless energy to each of her sports. “Taylor is known for being loud and excited, even about the small things,” said Broadway volleyball coach Colton Frey. In the classroom, Suters boasts a 4.1 GPA and plans to study biology with a premed track in college.
