Fluvanna County High School's distinctive Flying Flucos logo brought some Central Virginia pride to a new online tournament of high school mascots. The winged cursive consonant was eliminated this past Saturday in the inaugural National High School Mascot Tournament's first round by Staggy the Stag, mascot of Berkeley High School in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Staggy advanced to face the Millbury Woolies from Millbury, Massachusetts, in the round of 32, which concluded Tuesday.

Charlottesville's popular Tom Tom Festival broke records this year, besting its pre-pandemic attendance levels, according to organizers. The 13th annual celebration of creativity, connection and community — originally centered around the April 13 birthday of Charlottesville native son and Founding Father Thomas Jefferson — reported an overall attendance of 49,016, discounted down to 29,959 to account for people who attend more than one day of the five-day festival.
