ORONO, Maine — The Greely Rangers chanted in the dugout, just as they had done all game long. Finally, with the game on the line, they got the fire lit Saturday afternoon. The Rangers from Cumberland Center scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a four-run deficit on the way to a 6-5 victory over Ellsworth in the Class B state championship game at Mahaney Diamond on the campus of the University of Maine.

It would be my last chance to go turkey hunting this spring and I was determined to find a gobbler. It was nearly sunrise when I pulled into the field and parked. I figured the birds might be slow to fly down on a gray morning. The grass had grown so high that it might deter turkeys from walking through it.
